TGIM: Running on Empty

Welcome back to Thank God It’s Monday!

tl;dr Happy Tuesday!

My gas tank is on empty.

Two flights, two hospitals, four weight-training sessions, five cardio days, six(ish) business hours, seven night shifts, eight Instagram posts, and 90 working hours later, this week is over.

It was hard as hell, and totally self-inflicted. But I made a promise to myself that I would work my butt off, relentlessly pursue my goals, and execute everything I did this week to the best of my ability.

Is TGIM getting sent out for your leisurely reading with your Tuesday morning coffee?

Yes (whoops), and I hope you have a delicious coffee to enjoy to start your day.

But I found so much joy in the work this week.

In the moments when my alarm would go off and my brain reflexively thought, “I’m so tired,” I would consciously redirect the concern. I was grateful for the sleep I got, excited to pursue the day, and knew that after some movement and caffeine, things would look brighter.

When I was so tired it felt like my soul was leaving my body, I would remind myself it was temporary.

When I was feeling great after a workout and coffee, I would remind myself that it too was temporary.

The time was spent intentionally, purposefully, and focused, because when you’re that busy, there’s no time to worry about the past or the future; you just continue to put one foot in front of the other.

If this week is slammed for you, look for the moments where you can find joy.

Notice the moments where you feel excited and the people who fill your cup. When something feels impossibly frustrating, remember it’s temporary, and it will pass. When you feel so depleted, take a moment for yourself to appreciate the struggle; you were meant to do hard things.

And (something that is still a work in progress for me), schedule the downtime at the end of the stretch. Book a massage or a dinner at the place you’ve been dying to try. Having something you’re looking forward to at the end of the tunnel helps push through the hardest moments.

Speaking of which, I am headed home to get an incredible few hours of sleep.

I hope you find your strength to get through a hard week, happiness in the challenge of your work, and confidence in proving to yourself of more than you ever knew.

If you found some value in this, please share it with a friend you think would enjoy it! And let me know if you’d like to be added to get TGIM.

This week, my podcast recommendation is from Hal Elrod’s Achieve Your Goals, “The Miracle Mind: How Five Minutes Each Morning Can Rewire Your Brain- and Your Life.”

With that, go crush it this week!

Until next time,
Shannon
